About Us

Sweet Fix serves couples all across Virginia, including but not limited to: Richmond, Charlottesville, Northern Virginia, DC, Virginia Beach, and Hampton Roads. We are proud to have been voted "Best Wedding Cakes in Richmond" by the Readers of Richmond Magazine, Richmond Bride, Borrowed & Blue, and Virginia Living Magazine.

While Sweet Fix always shares in the vision of our clients, we will not copy an existing cake decorator or designer. Our love for - and experience in - the visual arts makes the need for unique, custom designs of utmost importance. We work closely with our clients to understand their event style as well as we can. We not only request that they share cake inspiration photos with us, but also allow us to coordinate with their selected color and fabric swatches, flowers, table decor, favors, and other important visual elements.

In addition to our custom cakes, we devote hours to the theme development, creation, print, and collection of all visual display elements for our dessert tables and styling including but not limited to; pedestals, menu cards, favors, backdrops, floral arrangements, table decor, utensils, packaging…. the list goes on! As a result, we are able to develop designs that complement the entire event and ensure that the client always has a one-of-a-kind dessert display. Inspiration is key!

Baking Philosophy

  • Sweet Fix believes that quality, freshness, and taste is just as important as the craftsmanship of our designs.

  • We only use the highest quality of all-natural, preservative-free, local, and organic ingredients.

  • All of our cakes are baked entirely from scratch and hand-designed.

  • All of our cake recipes (including our house-made gluten-free flour) have been developed by Sweet Fix and are made fresh-to-order

  • All of our cakes and desserts are made with real ingredients (real butter, organic Madagascar Bourbon vanilla, real vanilla beans, fresh lemon juice and zest, fresh berries and seasonal fruits, homemade curds, organic nuts, Dutch-process cocoa, top shelf liqueurs, freshly grated carrots, apples, and coconut — the list goes on!). We do not believe in artificial ingredients or simply using imitation extracts to flavor cakes.

  • European-meets-Southern describes our style. Our icing of choice is Italian Meringue Buttercream — incredibly different in texture, quality, and taste than what is common in the South. Real butter, cane sugar, and egg whites make up our subtly sweet, incredibly light and airy buttercream — we’re not your run-of-the-mill powdered sugar & vegetable shortening combo.

  • We make “dessert-style” wedding and special occasion cakes with European-influenced buttercream. Sweet Fix considers our cakes dessert-style because of the following:

  1. All of our cakes, even our 3D & sheet cakes, are multi-layered cakes with top quality ingredients. Each of our cake tiers are made up of 4 torted layers of cake with 3 layers of buttercream filling (and additional fillings upon request).

  2. Our wedding cake serving sizes are much larger than the norm due to pan size and torting (dividing the cake into more layers to incorporate more filling). This stacks up to a cake closer to 5” in height, with much larger portions.

  3. No matter how large or complex the cake, we completely avoid the use of low-quality, preservative-filled and pre-made ingredients. All of our desserts, including multiple tiered wedding cakes, are made from scratch and fresh-to-order.

  4. Our wedding and special occasion cakes look the same on the inside as our non-customized dessert cakes, the only difference being the custom design. Despite their outward appearance, we ensure that our cakes’ interior quality and composition always remains the same!

About the Owner

Amanda, the founder of Sweet Fix, has over 18 years of experience in the fine arts, having received her degree at The Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. She was the founding director of Gallery5, a non-profit visual and performing arts center in Richmond, Virginia, where she received numerous awards and recognitions. In 2008 she received The Theresa Pollak Award for “Art Innovator of the Year”, and in 2006, was the youngest recipient of Style Weekly’s “Top 40 under 40” awards. Under her direction, Gallery5 was consistently awarded “Best Art Gallery of the Year” by the readers of Style Weekly and Richmond Magazine.

Her interest and passion for baking began after the birth of her first and only child in 2008. While the art of gourmet cooking was of great interest to her, refining the craft of baking and decorating redirected her creative energy to the world of cakes. Amanda is a self-taught baker, who has spent many years refining her skills. Amanda has developed all of Sweet Fix’s cake recipes to ensure their originality, quality, and style. Sweet Fix began in 2009 as a part-time home-based business operated solely by Amanda. As the demand for her custom cakes and dessert tables grew, so did her kitchen and staff. .

Amanda’s custom designs and artistic cake decorating has become recognized in major local and national media outlets including: Food Network, Martha Stewart Weddings, Weddings Unveiled, Engaged Magazine, 100 Layer Cake, Wedding Chicks, Green Wedding Shoes, Ruffled Blog, Style Me Pretty, Every Last Detail, Young House Love, Burnett’s Boards, Wedding Sparrow, Swooned, Trendy Bride Magazine, Southern Weddings Magazine, Virginia Living Magazine, Borrowed & Blue, Glamour & Grace, Virginia Bride, The Lovely Find, Project Wedding, Tidewater & Tulle, Richmond Bride, and many many others..
